Our Story

Built for Somerset Business Owners, Not City Boardrooms

Fenwick & Moore was founded in Taunton with a single conviction: that owner-managed businesses deserve the same quality of financial advice as large corporates — without the hourly billing anxiety, the acronym-heavy letters, or the sense that your accountant is too busy to pick up the phone. Edward Fenwick established the practice after a decade in regional and national firms, where he watched small business owners pay premium rates for templated advice that never quite fit their situation.

We are members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), which means every piece of advice we give is backed by rigorous professional standards and ongoing CPD. But what that means in practice for you is simpler: we stay current, we stay accountable, and we don't guess. When tax legislation changes — and in Somerset's farming, retail, and professional services sectors it matters enormously when it does — you'll hear from us before it affects your numbers.

Today, Fenwick & Moore serves businesses across Taunton, Wellington, Bridgwater, and Wiveliscombe on fixed monthly retainers that cover everything from annual accounts and payroll to VAT returns and startup structuring. No surprise invoices. No 'that's outside your package' conversations. Just honest, plain-English guidance from a team that treats your business as if it were their own.

How Fenwick & Moore Came to Be

2009

Edward Qualifies with ICAEW

After completing his ACA qualification, Edward Fenwick joins a regional practice in the South West, spending six years advising businesses across Somerset and Devon on accounts, tax planning, and growth strategy.

2015

The Fixed-Fee Idea Takes Shape

Frustrated by watching small business clients receive shock invoices for routine questions, Edward begins developing a subscription model that bundles unlimited advice with core compliance work — a model still rare in regional accountancy at the time.

2017

Fenwick & Moore Opens in Taunton

The practice launches from a single office in Taunton town centre with eight founding clients, all owner-managed businesses in the Somerset area. The fixed monthly fee structure is introduced from day one.

2019

Expanding Across Somerset

Rapid word-of-mouth growth sees the client base grow to cover Wellington, Bridgwater, and Wiveliscombe. A dedicated payroll service is added to the offering following consistent demand from clients with growing teams.

2022

Making Tax Digital Ready

Ahead of HMRC's Making Tax Digital rollout, Fenwick & Moore transitions all eligible clients to cloud-based bookkeeping — primarily Xero — well before the deadlines, with no additional cost to existing clients on fixed packages.

2024

Over 150 Somerset Businesses Served

Fenwick & Moore now supports more than 150 active clients across the Somerset region, spanning sole traders, limited companies, partnerships, and startups — with a client retention rate of 94% year on year.

The Team You'll Actually Speak To

At Fenwick & Moore, you won't be handed off to a junior after your first meeting. Every client has a named contact who knows their numbers, their sector, and their ambitions.

What We Stand For

Plain English, Always

We write letters you can actually read and hold meetings where we explain, not impress. If we use a technical term, we immediately explain what it means for your bank account.

Fixed Fees, No Surprises

Every Fenwick & Moore client pays one agreed monthly fee that covers their agreed services and unlimited questions in between. You'll never pick up the phone wondering if the call is going to cost you.

Proactive, Not Reactive

We contact you when something changes that affects your tax position — we don't wait for your annual review. Budget announcements, MTD updates, and payroll threshold changes reach you before they reach your bill.

ICAEW Standards

Full membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales means professional indemnity insurance, a rigorous code of ethics, and continuing professional development — every year, without exception.

Local Knowledge

We know the Somerset business landscape — from agricultural businesses around Wiveliscombe to the retail and hospitality sector in Taunton town centre. Local context shapes better advice.

Long-Term Relationships

Our 94% annual client retention rate is the metric we're most proud of. We build relationships that last years, not engagements that end when the return is filed.
